Hi,
sorry if I post here which is not maybe the appropriate forum but
it is still the more appropriate one as the goal is to modelize something…

I need help to open (import) a file made with Microstation (soft used in urbanism), it's a .dgn file.
At the end I should get it in Lightwave to modelize but I know I need before to
convert it in .dxf, knowing that my client can import a .dwg with VectorWorks, convert it in .dxf and then I import it.

The question is how to convert a .dgn in .dwg ?
Anyone knows which other softs than Microstation can load this damn' unknown file format ?

You can use microstation to export to a dwg file.

Yes as Jartain said you can export a .dwg file with Microstation. This is easier with V8 of MicroStation. Anyway you may also want to see if you can export a .sat file from MicroStation. Sometimes that is helpfull if the .dwg or .dxf isn't working out for you.

If I remember correctly MicroStation/J could export .sat files of 3d models. Just about any solids/nurbs modeler will read a .sat. Rhino for instance. Then you can export your tessellated model from there for use in Lightwave.

And don't be a MicroStation hater. MicroStation is one of the most powerfull all around CAD packages available.

I agree,

We use MStation and V8 really is fantastic. We never scratch the surface of what this can do. It supports a wide variety of formats including STL wich lets you talk to packages like CADDS5.

A great program.
