View Full Version : NEW YORK City rebuild by hand
Starno 01-05-2004, 07:08 PM Hello!
This is a personnal project that I did during my free-time on job at Hybride.com.
It's kind of matte painting of a village built on top of buildings in New York City. I tried to imagine how people could live after a disaster like that. I started my project with a picture that I took on top of the Empire State Building last summer.
Comments are welcome of course!

very very cool concept..... looks just fine maybey explenation on what is 3d painted photo etc..... how done it or something
looks very good
great work
the concept is very, very nice.
The matte painting is technically very well done.
But the camera view (so, the ref image...) is a bit boring.
The same concept, with same effort and work but with a more dramatic point of view and perspective (looking at the horizon with a strong foreground or a focus on some more dynamic event, maybe) would rock hard.
Well, my crit in 3 words:
it lacks focus
(PS: maybe, with the same image, putting something on the foreground, like a bird, or a copter ...)

I am also curious as to which parts are photo, and which parts you created? Also, is this 3D or 2D?
Cool idea, and the final image looks nice :) I can't really comment further since I'm unsure of which parts you created (apart from the obvious).

I agree with Leigh, as the bridges between the buildings dont cast a shadow.. I do like the image though :) very nice work!

Very nice stuff. I'd say the smoke on the left is a bit too "hard", looks almost solid to me.

awesome pic so far, im from NY so Im assuming that the real parts are the buildings and the matte so far is the rooftop villages with the connecting bridges and of course the flooded streets with the boats.
nice

Thank for comments!
I'll try to post an image of the real photo.
But in general, bridges, houses, grass, plants, water, trees, boats or painted. also, the real picture was a little bit foggy (in the middle of the afternoon) and I tried to do a sunrise. So, I also painted sun and shadows on each buildings.

Cool. I'm from NYC and I would hate to see the city like that, but it looks cool.
It kinda reminds me of Venice. Good work. Can we get some other angles or upclose around the streets?

Hi JHarford
You just said: "You should submit to expose".
What is Expose? A kind of contest or what?
Could someone can explain me.
