View Full Version : an idea i had....
wedge 06-21-2002, 03:49 AM how much do you think it would cost to build something to take a camcorder underwater? it would be really cool if i could videotape motion-capture under water and use it to keyframe a human skeletal rig... any ideas?
(what i would do is match up the points with the person in the water, so the CG rig moves just like the one in the video footage.)

a while ago i played around with an idea i had. i just tracked points on a person who is walking(side view only) in shake, and exportet the tracking information. this gave me a textfile with the actual values for X and Y Axis and i could easylie attach the values to the controls on the character with a simple script. worked out very well but it was just for side view. so for complete 3D i would need also a front view and do the same.
so this might be a way for you too !?!?
btw : i don#t know how to build a waterresistent box for the camera :)

There are special casings for cameras to be used for underwater shoot.
Svenip, what you mentioned about 2d tracking is actually practiced in some post houses. Using those tracked data for your 3D animation is being done in the past using compositing softwares or tracking apps. without motion capturing.
Softimage3D is also imports data from flame* to use for joints and constraints.

uhh haven't know that :) was just playing around with tracking in shake and fount that the export could be fine for such tasks :)
the only problem that i see is if i use another cam from front to determine the side motions. because of a different size of the image it may be hard to size it to the same like the side cam.

Well, that setup would need some computations but what I mentioned is just for one cam tracking for simple data aquisition. For more than one cam, I dunno--maybe you have to do some computations or use it as a separate data--maybe for another joint/constaint axis/direction.
By the way, you can aslo 2d facial tracking then import those datas to your 3d invironment to drive those facial handles/manipulators. It's just y and x movement though. Almost the same principle as the new facial tracking app that was advertised a week ago. What's amazing is that that app was also able to track a head with a slight head turn in 3d using a single camera!!!

what programm is it ?? that's actually cool if it can calculate this into the tracking :hmm:
