View Full Version : Modeling: Polygons: How to split through a vertex?
Jockomo 01-05-2004, 05:45 PM Every time I try to use the split tool to cross a vertex it gives me troubles.
In Dave K's tutorial he does this a few times, but it seems like I have to go around the center vertex rather than "through" it.
Here is an example, I am trying to split the polys along the red line and have trouble when getting to the vertex with the yellow arrow pointing at it:

just get as close as you can and weld the ones in that area, thats what i do...
MJPoly tools comes in handy for this stuff also and they do have a PLE version

Ok, that's what I was doing anyway. Just wanted to be sure there wasn't a better way.
Thanks once again :)

This way isn't any better, but I'll submit it for your consideration.
The Draw Split Tool.
Just draw it until the vertex, hit enter, then reselect the same tool (hotkey "y") and draw again, starting at the vertex and going outward.
If you've got snapping magnets on the split tool, try turning them off. Place the split anywhere on the edge and use the middle mouse button to drag the split into the vertex as far as it will go.
