View Full Version : subDivs workaround?

Perhaps I'm missing some basic step, but I've looked around and found nothing about this problem.

Let me preface by saying that in my limited experience, Maya's subdivision engine is extremely limited (esp. compared to that of 3DSMax). Here's the problem: I can only choose 3 levels of crease for lines/vertexes. 3DSMax has a slider for the crease node, from 0 (uncreased) to 1 (hard crease). Is there some plugin/workaround that allows that level of control with Maya SubDivs?

There are innumerable other problems with Maya's SubD interface/flexibility, but I guess I'll get to that some other time :surprised .

I don't think there's anything as convienient as a slider control for crease strength. Basically, you have the three presets under the subd menu.
If you want something in between, select an edge, full crease it, refine that area, and then remove the crease. It'll be sharper than a partial, but not knife like (like a full crease).

I know thats not much of a work around. But that how I do it.

that's what i thought :-/.

well do you happen to know any way to speed up the polygon proxy mode? is there something i'm doing that's causing it to go super slow (i know it's not the graphics card cause it's fine with polys or with plain subd with no poly proxy)?

thanks for your help, by the way ;)
