View Full Version : applying UVW without losing animation?

I'm a Maya user trying to refreshin my skills in good ol' Max. I came across a problem in which after I had done some bend, twist and stretch modifer animation that if I tried to add a UVW maping modifer to the stack afterward it would mess up my animation. Any ideas as to why or did I just screw up by not texturing my model before animation - (please tell me Max allows me to texture after animation).

Thanks to whoever can help me out!

Yes, but you have to put UVwmap modifier(or modifiers) in the stack before any deform modifier like bend, twist, morph or skin

It's usually best to texture before animating, but I don't think this is a total loss. Can't you re-order your stack so that the UVW mapping is beneath all the animated modifiers? It shouldn't affect the animation.

yeah I've tried putting the modifier at the bottom but I get crazy results - I think I might be screwed

Are you sure that your map is using UVs (check for *material editor / bitmap / explicit map channel*), and not world coordinates ? The problem you're describing looks like that...

For sure, puting the UVmap below the bend on the object's stack is the normal way to solve this common problem.

Could you send up a graphic exemple if this doesn't htep you to solve your problem ?
