I have had the hardest time getting some nice texturing with metals. My paticular project has a saw blade in the scen and I can't get any of the stadard #DS metal textures to get that shiny look. Any tips?

One thing to consider, and there is many, is that the shinyness is really a product of reflectivity. So not only will you have to have the material and object correct, but it will need a proper backdrop to reflect.

Neil Blevins has some nice stuffs you may want to check out. He even has his tutorials in chm format so you can access them in max anytime you want :>

If your metal has nothing to reflect it will not look right, a black background will not due. If you are going for a studio look, try making a self illuminated plane over head it will give those studio type reflections. An environment map might also do the trick depending on the desired effect. Another thing to conider in this particular case, is that the saw blade is a flat object, so be mindful of what type of falloff you use in the reflection slot, the wrong option could kill your reflections on a flat object. Hope this helped:thumbsup:
