Hi everybody!

First some little story about this Truck:

It was begun im March of this year, when I changed from MAX to Blender and was my first 3D work. A few weeks ago, some people released a custom build of blender, which supports now raytracing, but this is still not an official release.

At this point I did a complete rework of this vehicle and used the new raytracing capabilities, which I'm very happy of. (all the time before I had to be satisfied with the old scanline renderer)

So unfortunately I have some antialiasing issues and some slight material artefacts, but I'm looking forward to the next blender release, so that these problems will be eliminated.

At the moment, I'm fine with the model, maybe I'll do some renders in higher resolutions next week, and hope to get rid of those aliasing.

So here's the truck:

Custom build of mine, based on Kenworth K5 Street Truck

- approx. 670.000 Faces
- no raytraced shadows
- about 30 Minutes rendering time

(Please be patient while loading, images are about 300k each.)

And the wire:

I hope you have as much fun looking at this image as I had to model it.

wow, thats blender? I'm definitely impressed  Nice job man. The modeling of the truck looks spot on. Great job on the details! And I'm also really enjoying the color scheme of your composition too. Nice use of analogous colors :) I think it'll make great posters etc. Hell probably be good for Kenworth brochures!

my *only* crit might be that if you could somehow connect the floor to the wall so that the transition of your background was seamlessly smooth... I think that would be the final touch it needs (that hard edge where the floor ends is driving me nuts). just MO though, it still rocks

nice headlights!
I think the chrome could be a bit brighter, perhaps a better/more contrasting reflection map. Also, I think it would be a more interesting image if it were darker inside the cab... just seems a lil' unnatural with the same amout of light inside and out.
overall... very nice.:applause:

Thanks for your replies, yes you are right, some environment or a smooth transition would give him the last kick.

But I've spend so many hours in that model, I definitely have to make a break and leave this truck. Therer are so many other ideas to model.

But who knows, I reworked him 3 times, maybe one day I'll do it a fourth time.

The problem I see, is on the second pic front wheel. The wheel and the fender seem out of wack. Almost like the fender is smaller than the wheel. The fender needs to sit higher up and a bit bigger, so it has more clearance. As it looks right now, the front wheels look like they sit directly under the front grille.

Why do people always say this when they see that someone modelled and rendered something in Blender? Have you all not seen the work done by Landis on his Airman thread and the stuff posted here by @ndy? They are all Blender works and are worth the front page plug most of the time.

If you haven't used the tool, then don't be surprised. Blender has advance a lot in the last year from becoming an open source application.

Sorry, just my rant on the whole "Blender sucks" attitude that it seems to get a lot.

Back on topic. I posted a reply to this over at elysiun a while back. Just a great model. The lighting could be a little better, but that is all that I can really say needs to be improved IMO. Great work.

I'm sorry that you hear so much negativity about Blender, but you've overreacted to what I said. My surprise was not because I think that "Blender sucks" but because of what it was capable of for being a free(?) application. Please do not stick words in my mouth that I did not say. I think your ranting is totally uncalled for and you should not 'assume' what people think.

Hey boys, we should not start a "whats-that-blender-thing"-flamewar, calm down. I just like the way I can do things with blender.

And blender isn't complex to use at all, it only has an unusal, but very handy concept.

So let's go on with the pictures.

Here are two detail shoots for those who are interested in:

Have phun and happy blending :wavey:

i could sit here all night discussing the diminsions ...they are all way off target

like just one for instance is the cab...on conventials the cab is barely wider than the hood over the engine...
the tires on the trailer on these types of trailers are small...or supposed to be...anyways a lot smaller than the tractor tires

the fuel tanks are way too small, origial ones hold about 125-150 gals and these look like 20 gal tanks
the outside wheels on on the dually axels are supposed to cup into the center of the axle way farther than you have it here, most are to the point of being right at the gap between the tires and not outside like you have them here

plus they dont look like real wheels either

i mean all these are just little things and basically you have the model together

it does look good just little things i can spot..

That all doesn't matter here, since I didn't want to do some "ultrarealistic" thing, the dimensions are all right for me.

I only got some poor photos, the rest had to be done by imagination I couldn't even see some "real" tires. I modeled them as close I was able to imagine.

So it's only an optical illusion, it's virtual, this truck doesn't even exist, maybe one day I'll build him in real. But i'ts my right to model him exactly as I want him to be and here he his and shows his (IMHO) beauty. Be fine with it or leave it.

Cheers

Dane

btw : thx for all your comments

Sorry, I was just spouting off and did not mean for that to be directed to you personally, but to the community in general. Again, my apologies. I read my statement again, and it did appear to be directed at you.

Yes, Blender is a free application. I use it exclusivley, even after trying Lightwave and XSI, both learning additions. I just find it very easy to work with.

truck looks good.

i think you should change the front wheels to match real wheels closer

http://buyatruck.net/Detailed/777.html

and you need to add all the marker lights to the trailer.

these are little things that will make your rig look mucho better IMO

thx for that reference.

the fuel tanks are way too small, origial ones hold about 125-150 gals and these look like 20 gal tanks

Due to that photo I can actually see the problems, yes indeed they are way too small .

And the backside of the cabin is much too short, that's why my fueltanks have come too small.

So, I'll have to do some improvements.

Update will follow.
