Hi All,

Here's my latest animation:

http://www.blowtorch.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/animation/fhead_scream.mov

http://www.blowtorch.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/animation/fhead.jpg

Done in Max. Scripted an interface for the facial stuff in max based on Jason Osipa's interface in his book Stop Staring.

Comments please.

Oh and Happy New Year folks:beer:

Well done

Do find that book helpful? I was thinking of ordering it but I usually like to actually see whats in a book before I throw $50 at it

Hi Smoke,

The book is great.
One of the best CG reference books I've bought.

It's definitely worth the money and if you use Maya you get all the scripts on the cd.
I'm planning to create a scene with my Max version to post up on here, it's just finding time to do it!

Cheers

Hey!

That looks great, good work. I would say there's one shape (well, two or four, depending on what "Setup" you built this around) that I'm really missing on this piece, and that's the "lips in", something to show me the lips are turned in towards themselves, and making contact.

You've actually built something into this guy that'll help you with that, whether intentional or not, that little outward swoop of the lips. When you get a "lips in" shape going like for a b,m,p sound just be sure it bends the lip in the opposite direction, getting rid of that shelf. That and some solid contact (hold for at least one frame) on the percussive noises, and this rocks.

Again, all looks fantastic, as a viewer, though, I just want those certain noises to hit a little harder. Keep it up!!! -J.

P.S.-If you're wondering how you do that type of shape with teeth that "break" a lip seal, you just do it around the areas the teeth aren't sticking out (Ice Age has this in a few characters, also, Watto does it well)

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments people.

Jason, I had realised that I wasn't getting the right shape with the m,b,p sounds but I hadn't realised why.

Really outstanding lipsynch! If you correct the m,b,p shapes it will be first class!

Hi,

I've replaced the animation with a new version. I've improved the 'upper lip down' and 'lower lip up' morphs so that the the m,b,p shape is more defined.

http://www.blowtorch.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/animation/fhead_scream.mov

It's looking a lot more convincing now, I think.
Thanks again for pointing it out Jason.

I could probably work on the morphs some more, I'll do that for the next soundbite I animate to.

Hi,

Here's a version showing the interface along side it:

http://www.blowtorch.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/animation/FHead_interface.mov

The interface drives all the facial morphs, jaw movement and eye movement.

Interface looks nice, did you find some way in max to get points allways inside of the rectangle?

(I chust most to ask, can you share only interface in a max file, it looks so nice.)

Nice work! It matches up perfectly and Im always a fan of big teeth.

Hey not bad, although with eyes that big he could use much stronger expressions if you animated the eyes more.

Hi Linus,

I can give you the interface but it's the expressions on the morphs that are doing all the work.

I'm hoping to get a scene together to post up here. What I could do with ideally are some general head model/morphs to set the scene up with. If anyone can help with a head and wants to create the morphs for me then I'll post it up.

I have JasonOsipa book, I only need that interface that look so nice.

Did you lock controlpoints in interface inside rectangels?

Hi Linus,

I'll send you the interface tonight, haven't got it here.
PM me your email address.

Reality3D sorted me out with the object constraints for the controllers in the rectangles. Here's the thread:

Way to go Mr Jon!

And I can remember when you didn't want anything to do with Expressions :)

Looks really cool and it's great to see the interface running with the animation. Real learning stuff.

Cheers
