i thought this was kinda interesting, the avg age for gamers is 29, and 17% are over 50, not to suprising i guess as thats about when video games first started coming out, heres the source, you prob need to register i think so i just pasted it as well.

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=3272

A survey instigated by UK publisher and developer Codemasters has found that only 21% of gamers are children or teens, that 47% are in their twenties and that 32% are over thirty. Half of this latter group said they were over thirty-five.

In other surveys British media analysts Xtreme Information found that half of over-fifty year olds who own a PC regularly play computer games. Meanwhile, a poll released in the United States by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) found that game players now average 29 years old and that 17% are aged over fifty – up from 13% in 2000.

The Codemasters survey found that older gamers are attracted to video games because they improve mental and physical reflexes, provide a link with grandchildren and don’t require a partner to play. The survey found that many older gamers play almost every day for between one and three hours at a time – some for up to eight hours on a regular basis.

"Oh yeah? Did you know that one of the world's top ten players of Death To Everybody is a Carmelite nun?"

You might want to click here to read another opinion about those statistics... (http://www.erasmatazz.com/library/Game%20Design/GameStatistics.html)

well I just saw a tv show where they explain this fenomenon more and more people over 50 that retire have nothing to do so they hang out with their grand kids and kids who force the internet on them. and then they get reeled in by the online card games. so the video games their talking about are not games like rpgs or fps but more like solitaire and other such card games.

my family is quite the oposite. my grandfather was into computers since the very first appple and since hes pushed his love of computers onto his children and grandchildren he has been pretty much pioneering in the computer field with the very first site about asia in the world and being one of the first to use a DSL ligne at his home. hence me. when your grandfather gets you a computer at the age of 7 your pretty much destined to be into computers when you grow up.

oups double post sorry I pressed finish and then pushed back and typed some more before pressing finish one more time

my grandpa played Freecell on my mom's computer for hours. he kept track of every game he played and beat. he would also play solitaire and other card game.

and when you compare that to my game times, i still played more then him, but then again, he was 75.

i remember someone posting about how many women playing and was like over 50%, but that total is probably true because of all the women who play cards and puzzle games online. don't forget places like Ultimate Bet.com where online poker numbers the same amount of players that play some FPS. i don't see any thing wrong with these numbers besides they try to make you believe grandpa and grandma are fraggin' your ass in UT2003. but every year that pass, more and more people will be getting online and playing game. sure they might be just card games now, but look how many women jumped into MMORPG and theSims. with so many war games out there, i wouldn't be surprised if your getting ordered to "move your troops out" from a 50 year old retired general from US Army who did the real thing.

the more gamers, the better.

>>>and 17% are over 50

LOL... yeah the last time I was in a casino I would say that 90 percent of those playing video poker or video slots may have been over 50.. does that count?

I know a LOT of Unreal Tournament players are pretty dang old. A couple of clans have members in their 40's 50's and even in their 60's.

Retired guys, or guys that have SEVERELY low -pressure jobs like to play.

It's only going to go up. I don't plan on quitting games ever, especially not with all the cool technology they'll be using in 10 to 20 years!

My old QUAKE2 clan was mostly people into their 40's. In fact, one lady who used to hand me my a$$ on a stick is near her 60's.

Here's proof. (http://www.pscclan.com/members.htm)

You are almost 30 now.

40 will come very quick! You make it sound like life stops at 40.

Well your attitude will change as you get there.

Even 60 isn't that old anymore.

I used to think 40 was over the hill when I was 20 and believe me it seems like yesterday.

Cheers,

LMAO!!!.... Ok..Ok...I see your point...

I suppose it COULD seem that I am being unfair, but that wasn't my intention in any way..mea culpa:blush:

It's just quite curious that the assumption is that the game world is all zit covered youngins, when the reality is that people of ALL ages are digging these games. Pretty damn cool if you think about it.:)

-Dave

By the way ...THANKS for reminding me of my impending walk into oblivion!! Like I havent been thinking about it constantly:cry:
