View Full Version : why is bump multiply rendering timelike this?!
Funky 12-30-2003, 09:43 AM hello
Why putting a map on bump canal multiply a lot rendering?
It doesn't seems like that on other apps. :surprised

It depends on what version of MentalRay you are running. As I remember the older version had a weak point in rendertime whith bumpmapping.
I think MR3.2 in XSI3.5 sould have a faster bump rendering.

ok!! thank u Ezz
It seems I make a mistake on my texturing :surprised
You can go to the very good forum at XSI-base and do a seach on the topic. There a lot of examples on how to set up a good bump.

Please Ezz can u tell me something?
I want to know what's the difference between the bump options you find in "BumpMap generator" and those you find in the texture support?!!
If I check bump in texture support, is it the same if a connect texture to bumpMap generator or not.
Thank u Ezz for.

Well if I understand you correctly the difference is that you can use the same map for bump as you use for the diffuse color. The other option is to have a seperate map for the bump.
I can highly recommend to check out all the discussions about this topic on xsibase. I think the general opinion is that bumpmapping can be a bit confusing at first due to its many approaches.
Happy New Year...

The bumpmap_generator shader is a shader dedicated to bumpmapping, while the "bump" feature inside the other shaders is a utility that allows you to output bump out of a shader that you are using.
Imho, the bumpmap_generator gives better results than the shader enabled bump. Also, I find easier to control, since the bump is handled separately from the rest of the tree.
