Dear fellow modelers. I need some serious advice on how to model this phone. I have been banging my head on it for months. what is really killing my mind that groove in the back of the phone that bridges over the camera lense. I'd be blown away if someone could figure this out. I got pretty far with everthing else. I started the camera as a subDspehere and did all the detail of the top and bottom, side and front screen. then converted it to nurbs and trimed in the front main menu buttons. the key pad is no prob. but that back detail with grooves. can someon help me on this. or is it impossible? you can donwload the source images here (http://members.dslextreme.com/users/orbitalpunk/nokia3650.rar)

what software? it looks like max by the first image.

if its max 5 or 6, try utilizing spline/surface, as they can yield excellently detailed results, with a minimum amount of fuss...

usually when these products are designed, nurbs are used in a solids modelling application, and have very different toolsets as compared to 'entertainment targetted' platforms such as max, lightwave, etc

i would recommend nurbs, but i just wouldnt want to put you through that :) check out the spline/surfacing method though... it seems to be the best surfacing available without using nurbs, and can be collapsed to a nice mesh whenever you want.

Yes it is Maya. what exactly is a spline/surfacing method ? How can you translate that into maya terms? Thanks tho for your input. Its appreciated :)
