I have been looking at tutorials on the web and noticed a great amount of varity in the approaches to modeling a human figure. some start with a cube and keep building, some make seperate planes. some build sub-parts and weld them together.

Is this due to the sofTware being used? Is there a way that is best in Cinema 4D?

well yes, the big number of software packages on the market is one purpose for so many modeling methods, but you can use a number of them just in one package. it's how everybody thinks is the best way to do. one thing i know is that box modeling a human takes a hell lot getting used to, you have to foresee your progress and that's one purpose why beginners give up box modelling (like me:)). but it produces great results if you get the feeling of it. i rather prefer building parts separately and then welding them together with nice loops, but this also takes a lot of thinking and remaking your model. you just have to do a lot of modelling and decide which method suits you best.

cheers.

try both methods quickly and see how you get on.

for doing a head i prefered poly by poly...but box modelling can be very fast....now i got add poly plugin from samir its way faster laying down the polys and loops...so the choice is yours.

(for that second one it says you need edge extrude plugin but if you have 8 then you have edges anyway)

also check out the head toplogy thread at the top of this modelling forum...will give you a good idea about loops...also don't forget there is an application specific forum so youre welcome to post cinema/bodypaint questions in the cinema forum.

good luck.

Thanks - the girl in the tut has the look I am trying for.

also I found this one --

Joan of Arc tutorial (http://mr2k.3dvf.com/tutorials/max/tutorials_joan.htm)

Its for Max, but it has plenty of ideas for making stylised - idealised girls.
