Ok this is killing me. I have a project im involved in where I need to model a chinese food take-out container.

Such as this one:
http://www.cineshoppe.com/graphics/ex0067t.jpg

Ive tried every which way I can think of, and the result is always a mess. I am able to generally model anything (Except for good humans), yet modeling this simple box seems impossible.

If anyone has any insight at all in how I could do this easily I would appreciate it

Depends mainly on which part of the modeling process you have a hard time to achieve and also if it is for realtime display or a static render.

I'd make a box, hollow it using extrude from the top face and start either adding details or an alpha map to save the polys on the cap which has alot of varying shapes.

are you trying to model the folds in paper.
cos i would imagine you would need edges and be able to fold on the hinge. so if you use something like cinema 4d use poweraxis or mesh surgery plugin to do you folds.

other than that go with actarusprocyon suggestion:thumbsup:

You could also use this chinese take-out box template as reference. just kinda trace it or something and fold it up in your 3d program. I hope you understand what im trying to say. get the template here http://www.paperandmore.com/articles/box_templates/box_takeout.html

I,do understand, good idea.Polygun, while you're at it,if you're to use the latest suggestion, make the Uvmapping/unwrapping also at this 'tracing' stage, that way the mesh will require little to no Uv editing at all.

Thanks for all the help! I have already attempted to create the box using splines (converted to poly, then extruded to give depth) but it does not look that great. Unfortunately I am currently at work so I can't post the image as its at home.

It looks very good, but not to the standard I would like it to be. I plan on trying navx0r's idea using the template tonight and we'll see how that goes.

I will also post the render I have already done using splines if you guys would be so kind as to give me input on it.

Thanks to everyone for the input, its greatly appreciated :)
