i ask because when i have some polygons selected then "point selection form polygons" i now have hte points selected. I was trying to extrude the points like in wings and it didnt work. it extruded the polygons even though i was in point mode. so i went to poly selection mode and it still had the polygons i last has selected. I unselected all went to point mode and maunally selected all the points. hit extrude again and the entire model got bigger. so i tried bevel and no go. So what options do i have when in point mode. nothing gets greyed out so i dont know what a can use and what i cant.
btw im using c4d ce.
thanks

Extrude only works on polygons. The point extrude in Wings doesn't have any corresponding function in Cinema.

You might also want to know that the last selection made in any mode (points, edges, polys) is stored, so when you switch back to any mode from another, the selection is still there from the last time you were in that particular mode.... uh, hope that made sense.

If you use the context sensitive menus (right-click) the unavailable commands should be greyed out.......

Edit: Oh, CE?... Not sure...

oh i see what you mean by context menu.
I created a ui for modeling with all the polymodeling tools on the right side and those dont get greyed out when im in ponly mode. Going to have to remember that.
Thanks.

Normally, when you have a first series of points, you have to copy and paste them in the Structure Manager. Then you can "extrude" the new series to a new set of coordinates (new places) with the Move and the Scale tool. After which you can make poly's out out of them with the Bridge tool or the Add Poly tool.

After this, with the points still selected you can use the Edge Extrude plugin by Arndt von Koenigsmark. (free version and shareware with even more options, and still very useful in 8.5). But I'm not shure it works in CE though...
Anyway, you can go on adding points by copy and paste and Bridge them.

I usually start with an empty polygon object to which I AddPoints (in points mode of course) by Ctrl/Cmd clicking. These can follow the outline of a sketch you imported in the Luminance channel and which you set to one of the planes XZ, XY or ZY. Then you copy the points as said above, make a first series of poly's and then comes EdgeExtrude AvK. (or more CopyPaste)
etc etc...

you can also use the clone tool to copy points and either leave them where they are, or move them at the same time. just set the number of copies to 1, and move and/or rotation to where you want the new points to end up(not sure if this tool is in CE)

Indeed, this is a "forgotten path" in my work method. Thanks for mentioning it!
