anyone out there has this card, does it work well for 3d packages

What makes you think the graphics card will affect the rendering?
Maya and XSI supports hardware accelerated rendering...!!

Also, the current GeForceFX isn't exactly all it is on paper. Many major functions still simply don't work. So, that means you need an ATi to get real shader performance. Problem is, current ATi products suck arse at pro 3d work.
So, basically, there really aren't any products out right now that are just good in general.

Not to mention the ati dual monitor rig is a joke...Nvidia's is perfect

such as sometimes it decides not to work with one monitor, sometimes it overrides the monitors max refresh rate, the options for setting where dialog boxes and windows pop up hardly ever seems to work right, I could go on...

Luckily, we have not seen any of this with a large number of dual monitor systems.
