View Full Version : trying to create and animate hair
merabi 12-28-2003, 01:15 AM hi.
i'm trying to create and animate straight long hair (little pass the shoulder).
i've heard that Fur isn' gud fer long hair, so i'm using PFX. i've tried it and it's pretty easy to just create the hair.
"HOWEVER"...
don' know how to animate it...
about a half year ago, i remember i found tutorial on A/W web page, but it's gone now... i remember it was like, "convert tube to spline, and make contraints." But i forgot the detail.
if any1 can tell me the detail, the web link to the ttutorial, or better way to create & animate the hair, i would be appreciated.
thanks!

http://www.creativecow.net/articles/briggs_chad/maya_hair/ ... this prob wont help u much, but its all i can suggest :)
Hi there,
Another link:

But if you ask me, one of the best ways to create and animate realistic hair is using Shave and a haircut plugin (http://www.joealter.com). It has a pricetag but in my opinion it's worth it.
Cheers,
Xoch

thanks for the replies.
but if you guys can tell me what plugins (or mel scripts) were used to create hair using PFX and cloth, i would be appreciated.
i remember one was createTube.
another one i don remember the name, but it was to create PFX control curves using the edges of the tubes.
thnx!

theres gotta be some way with cloth to do it, i know there has to be. I mean, cloth has collision objects, and is fully affected by dynamics? what if you just applied a mair material (with alpha channel for each strand) to a couple layers of cloth...
I dunno, im kind of a noob in this department. :D

like, put coutple planes on the head and put the PFX on the plane?
I've tried couple times doing that, but i cannot form the hair the way i like. (well, i know it's just my skill isn' gud enough)
i found that using the control curve is da best way for myself.
i've tried shave and haircut trial too. it's a great stuff! ...but ya'll know that it costs $$$... T-T;
tryin to find a way to create hair using control curve... :(

try making cloth planes on the head, syflex would work because its quadratic, and you could create curves from edges, and constrain too, hide the cloth and create paintfx hair, and let the cloth dynamics handel the hair.
