first image ive created since september, University is a harsh mistress
Anyway im still venturing down my own little road of surrealism enjoying every step:)
heres a few more of them steps
Im most proud of how the sky and water turned out, i dont use references so i draw until i feel it looks right:)
hope you like it
12-28-2003, 02:46 AM
Excellent work man, I love the mood, the color composition, and the loose strokes.....photoshop I assume?
12-28-2003, 04:21 AM
Thank you Daniel Conway.
I love the color you used and the layout. It makes me wonder what happend..? Was the father involved? What is to become of the little girls future? Simply astonishing.
"To fill with sudden wonder or amazement."
Thank you again Daniel Conway.
12-28-2003, 06:51 AM
AH HA!, so it IS possible to do well in that method of feeling.
rad, now i just need a tablet and i'm set to go (i CAN use the mouse, its not an excuse).
12-28-2003, 09:03 AM
Perhaps I am melancholic person but I have the impression to see a hope in this fields of ruins by the sun and the glance of the small girl. (it's like psychologie:surprised )
Anyway, I like your work and I think it orginal.
Did you it on photoshop or painter?
12-28-2003, 09:13 AM
man o man, Now that has to be one of the best peices I have seen in a while. I love your colour palate, and the translucency in the water and umbrella is tryly amazing. And the sun and clouds ect ect ect ect ect. I think its great. It has such mood and feeling to it. Great composition and feeling of unstabitlty due to the placement of the red umbrella and its colour ofcourse.
Great work there!!!
I cant get over the ligting!!!!!!!!!!
dude!! that pic kicks serious assparagus!!!!!!!!!!
12-28-2003, 10:03 AM
So much chaos. The destruction, the water everywhere...Yet they don't seem that concerned. They have either given up, or this is somehow 'not' the worst thing that could have happened. Brilliant.
By the way, your paint work is very inspiring.
12-28-2003, 10:16 AM
I wonder where those stairs leed to?
You have captured something serious yet comforting but also disturbing.
I have to keep looking.
12-28-2003, 10:31 AM
amazing! No crits . . . sorry . . . nope, none at all. The clouds and water are awesome.
12-28-2003, 10:35 AM
Major love here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love it! Love loveleove
The clouds man! the clouds! Rich color, and nice delicate shading...
Things that you might want to consider:
I think you over dodged the sun and some highlights, fix it if you still can!
Also shading on the woman’s/child's cloths are too dark, which makes it look stiff. Try to loosen it up a bit, or have some light shine though like you did with the umbrella's shading. (which kicks ass too)
fawk.. it's awesome
edit: actually, the dodge isn't TOO bad, just oversaturated I guess.
12-28-2003, 10:47 AM
that's one excellent piece of art. the mood is stunning. the colors and depth are great too.
the best i've seen in quite a while!
12-28-2003, 11:28 AM

12-28-2003, 12:53 PM
This is work to be extremely proud of. My favoruite bit is the sky as well  I see this has an optimistic image of hope after what has been by the looks of it times of tremendous destruction.
12-28-2003, 01:30 PM
you have every right to be proud of those clouds... Absolutely amazing. I have no more to say.
12-28-2003, 01:58 PM
all is perfect...
i am unable to say anything to such a piece and subject!
keep up the good work
12-28-2003, 02:29 PM

12-28-2003, 04:29 PM
Even more because you didn't reference it.
Thats a lot to be said of that skill level.
Photoshop or Painter
If PS, what brushes did you use..... a slew of custom, perhaps.
Anyway, pat yourself on the back....this is non-fanboy congrats.
12-28-2003, 05:02 PM

12-28-2003, 05:28 PM
Well I know I'm just going to be adding to a very long list here but this one is absolutely top Pro Level stuff. I think any art director or art collector would be glad to have such skilled work.
12-28-2003, 05:38 PM
12-28-2003, 06:02 PM
haha beautiful! image has a nice load of emotion and thought to it.
interesting how you chose the podium, also i admire how you put the older woman into value, by having her umbrella open in contrast to her offspring, she shows calmness and wisdom.
Is this what you were trying to achieve?
Beautiful composition too, one of teh buildings seems flat.
12-28-2003, 06:34 PM
Beautifully done, Daniel. I knew that parisol was going to show up sometime. I particularly enjoy the way you handle translucent lighting. Your winter break has been especially fruitfull.
12-28-2003, 06:52 PM
Very nice! I haven't touched a computer in a week (shockingly), and it was nice to see your image when I logged in.
-I really like the style too...

12-28-2003, 09:32 PM
Jesus Christ that sky is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen!
WOW. Now that is a painting.
It has every element of a classic painting.
Congratulations on a great piece of Art.
12-28-2003, 10:35 PM
I love you! I love everybody who makes chinees/japanees art. Specialy this quind of style and quick paintings. Also my wallpaper now, maby u could make a special wallpaper edition ? :)
12-28-2003, 11:15 PM
Sometimes an artist, can create something that transcend talent and technics
like here this beautiful piece of art (the harmony with the subject, the lighting the contrast between the girls and the ruins) is a great representation of Hope.
My portfolio (http://www.tobiecote.com)
12-29-2003, 12:40 AM
I add on. This is absolutly breathtaking work.
It seems that theres alot of different opinions to the metaphorical meanings within the painting. I think a great sign of true art is when the observer is allowed to find their own meaning in a painting without ever realizing that they were fidnding there own selves.
Lets see how many more come out.
12-29-2003, 12:46 AM
It looks nice, i like the warm lightning and the overall mood.
BTW, it's my new wallpaper :)
12-29-2003, 01:12 AM

12-29-2003, 01:39 AM

12-29-2003, 02:15 AM

How about to extend more storyline accroding in this kind of thinking?
Stunning work!!!
My favorite bit is...all of it :)
As someone's already said - make sure you submit this for expose'2
12-29-2003, 02:41 AM

12-29-2003, 03:46 AM

12-29-2003, 04:20 AM
12-29-2003, 04:40 AM
Soooo artistic
12-29-2003, 05:29 AM
simply perfect :-)
my jaw sticks on the Table!!!!
12-29-2003, 06:25 AM
Wow! Truly wow! The scene portrays destruction, chaos, hoplessness. If the sun is rising, then i see it as a mocking hope. If it is setting, than i can only describe it as "doomed"
Either way, amazing peace. it portrays alot of different emotions, in a VERY uniuqe mixture.
So, like everyone else i ask, PS, or Panter? And, is there a larger res version for us to stare at?
12-29-2003, 06:42 AM
Possibly (quite possibly) one of the finest digital paintings I've seen here. Supremely beautiful and evocative.
12-29-2003, 09:05 AM
You better send this over to the people at Ballistic Pubishing before january 29th !!!! I think it's very good. I think it's amazing. I love it.....
The way the girl turns her head to look at the destruction around while holding on to her mother (I asume) is brilliant. It brings on the mood of something awfull that happened, but the girl finds comfort holding on to her mother. And the sun is in exactly the right location.
I'm not a real painting fan. I've got exactly 1 painting on a wall here where I live, but I would put this one up for sure.
Once again.
12-29-2003, 09:52 AM
It doesn't look like the sun It looks like a damn nuclear explosion about to whoop tha shiet out of them.
Although it would make more sense if it were a sun.
I find it hard to believe you didn't use any reference.. I find that Very hard to believe. either way its insane...must have taken you a looooong time.
12-29-2003, 10:16 AM
wow!! I totally dig the surreal look. This one goes in my inspiration folder for sure! The water in the front looks a little too 2D but that's about it. Extremely nice.
12-29-2003, 11:55 AM
Nice mate, really got the Feeling and Emotion to the Max...
It sorta reminds me of something from the Movie Hero. I dont know if you have seen it, but it is an amazing movie, very beautiful...
12-29-2003, 02:35 PM

The light is marvelous and the mood is great.

12-30-2003, 07:26 PM
Very very very nice work!!!
12-31-2003, 02:37 AM
hey great pic, it's now my new background :D
btw.. just wondering, did you think about the shadow falling on the parasol, as well as the translucent image of the woman through it? I can't really see a marked difference.. one should see perhaps just a bit larger and darker mass to the left side of her with less detail but hey..
Also as the sun is so low, shouldn't the shadows be more apparent on the water behind them? I also find the shadow of the little girl a bit too much to the left..
I don't see hope in this piece, I see 2 supernatural beings who actually caused the whole thing to fall, and they're serenely surveying their own little 'work of art' through destruction.
that's at least how I explain two spotless beings who nonchalantly watch the sun going down on a destroyed city.. just taking a little breather before going to the next target.
I love the sky btw.. sweet, sweet sky.. a bit flat.. but still cool.
12-31-2003, 04:14 AM
What a nice color!
12-31-2003, 05:02 AM

I'm new to digital painting, and i'd really like to progress...
I would like to know how you work, how do you build the midtones? what type of brush do you use? any tips and tricks you use a lot ? How do you achieve the feel of these strokes?
I hope i'm not boring you, but i'd really like to progress, so thx already...
