well after spending over $1000.00 for a Samsung Synmaster 213T I have to say I am feeling very let down. The ghosting on this monitor is horrrible to say the least. I am hoping there is a problem relating to my ATI 9800 pro DVI out and not the monitor.

my system specs:

p4 3ghz, asus p4p800-dx, 2x wd raptor running in raid0, ati 9800 pro 128meg, audigy2, winxp, antec sonota case /with stock power supply, logitech mx300 mouse, wacom intuos2, liteon dvd, LG cdrw. latest bios for motherboard, ati catalyst drivers 3.10. I am running this montor using a digital signal, not analog.

the image quality of webpages is good, but even moving windows around on the desktop creates massive ghosting. 3d games like unreal tournment i would consider unplayable.

I notice in the ati control panel - options, there are the following settings but they seem to do nothing.

Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays
Alternate DVI operational mode. If anyone could fill me on these it would be great.

Also im not to happy that I have found a dead pixel in this display already.

if anyone has any suggestions.. please.. i would like to hear them.

This screen has a 25ms pixel response, you should have aimed for 16

oh well.. this reminds me of about 10 years ago when i got burned buying my frist computer. Buyer Beware! this monitor is junk. time to go back to the CRT sony G500 that i have been using for the past couple of years. the higher price does not always mean the best! I wont forget this burn for a long time.

I have one and it doesn't ghost, apps and games play fine on my ATI AIW9800 on DVI. Don't go saying they are all junk, not every LCD is the same. Eventhough it may be the same series doesn't mean every single one will perform the same, has to do with how they are manufactured. Sorry to hear you got a bad apple.

If you got it at a store, take it back, if you got it online, you can't return it unless it has 8 dead pixels (this is why I paid more to get mine at BestBuy, I can take it back if it was defective).

I haven't seen much difference between 16ms and 25ms (though I know its there). Almost all the lcds out today are 25ms except for the *new* Dell 2001fp's. If tis so bad that is painful to use, then its a bad LCD, if its different for you coming from a CRT, welcome to LCD land, this is the way its always been and its not the LCDs fault.

One thing to keep in mind with LCD's is their resolution and refresh rate.

The resolution and refresh rate of the monitor must be matched up EXACTLY to the software settings.

If your screen requires 1600x1200 at 60 hertz...then make SUREi its running at EXACTLY those settings.

Failure to do so will result in a blurry screen and horrible horrible ghosting.

ATI's drivers are reknown for overriding the built in windows settings, so make sure both ATI's and Windows settings are correct for your display.

it is a trend that the bigger the monitors are the higher response rate they need to get rid of ghosting, I have a dell 1901fp which is a 25ms monitor and it ghosts, but it doesnt bother me much, games are fine, moving windows shows a slight ghosting and in max its alot of ghosting because the Grays are the worst colors lcd's deal with.

I would recomend returning this one and get a dell 2001fp instead, its 16ms

there is a review on anandtech.com

I was speaking in terms of the 20"+ arena, I am aware that there are plenty of 16ms 15-17" lcds.

The 213s run 1600x1200@60Hz IIRC.. Been a while since I messed with it, if your running DVI, most settings should be set automatically.

Got a 213T here.

No noticable ghosting...maybe you got a lemon? Or the settings per Greg's suggestion...

Hi!
My English is too bad to understand what you mean with ghosting. But I can remember that I was quite disappointed when I got my 191T, everything was blured and especially text looked quite bad. Then I played around with the color/brightness/contrast/sync/&co settings and installed the samsung software stuff and played around also there. Finally I had a completly clear screen, and till now my 191T works just PERFECT (except one dead pixel  ).
I hope that I could help you

Hi,
i've seen a number of 213Ts and they all had a perfectly clear display. Either your TFT is defective or you are not using DVI but an analog signal with a realy bad cable or graphics adapter.
Personaly i use a 20.1" Siemens Fujitsu TFT that is sharp as a knife even with my old GeForce DDR via analog. You should be able to get one of those for below $1000
Cheers

well I am using the DVI, not the analog cable. My ati Settings are all at default Catalyst winxp driver 3.10. my desktop is running at 1600 x 1200 at 60hertz. im not sure what settings would be wrong. Im running AGP 8x with radeon 9800, fast write on.

I would just take it/send it back and get a replacement. These are really nice monitors, you just have a bad one..
