CGTalk - Backup question

here is my problem :

i have a computer at school and at home *they are very far away from each other* , and when i go back to home at break , i want to back up most of my installed softwares with all the informations plus my documents kinda stuff to a dvd or cd-r s then restore those so i dont have to install all that software again ,

i used to bring home my harddrive but after switching to XP , xp doesnt let me do it since my motherboards are different, it doesnt boot up :-/

i tried a few backup softwares and they all made me have to install the softwares again. so if you know a software can back up data as i want , or a way to fix that windows error, i'd appreciate it

There is no way of doing it. Aside from your computers not being identical you will also run into licensing issues (starting with XP itself).
