RTFM - fine aight?

the manuals are just great - they'll give you exactly what you are looking for - check out the "Essentials" - then there's "Instant Maya" which gives you a tutorial to essential functionalities of maya - then there's a separate book on every feature which goes into every detail

all in html with search capabilities - almost any window of maya has a direct link into the help

If you're a novice, then get hold of The art of Maya - it says everything that the manuals should have said.... :hmm:

I must say I have had a lot of help using "Mastering Maya 3" aside from the manuals. It's pretty extensive and it's not as version-specific as it sounds.
