What is the current laptop out there that will support 3d applications, i.e., Maya, lightwave....

I am looking into getting a laptop but I know that the 3d cards aren't that good.

Any suggestions?

Check out the Fujitsu line of laptop (http://webshop.fujitsupc.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=CL) . Don't let the price shock you. It has a Quadro4 and support for Dual battery chambers with upto 6 hour battery life span.

Edit: You just missed the low end version for less money.

Dell are supposedly good. M60 is the "workstation" model - don't let that price shock you either.

Latitude D800 should be allright too - it doesn't have a Quadro card.
