I am doing an animation about an enzyme transforming a molecule of testosterone into something.

Here are the enzyme and the testosterone (the one in the center). I am going for a micrography look. The environment is not yet made.

I am looking forward to your comments on the textures and the modeling, also the lighting and the overall look of the scene (excluding background).

PLEASE COMMENT. I would rather hear from you that this is awful, than from my client.

Done with 3DS Max, with default scanline render.

I feel that the outer glow or falloff should be brighter and whiter. but otherwise it looks pretty good. I like the joint area textures

edit alos a displacement could help seel the bump betterand add some more natural roughness

Yea I agree about the falloff, increase it somewhat to improve the microscopic feel.

Are you going for a completely real simulation or merely an explanation of the process? Just wondering, coz the yellow thing doesn't really looks like a molecule to me. AFAICR a molecule consists of a core and elektrons very fast rotating around it, so I was wondering: where do the bumps come from? But of course these crits don't apply if you are just explaining the process.

err....
Atoms have a nucleus and an electron cloud, molecules are groups of 2 or more atoms that share valence electrons.
At that level of magnification, you can display it however the hell you want, because nobody knows what the heck an atom actually looks like.

I like the look of it, the lighting is very nice. If you wanted to give it a more electron-microscopy feel you could desaturate it and add some noise in post as well. Maybe throw in a touch of transluscence.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Indeed it is a schematic representation, not really trying to make a real picture.

I will make the improvements you suggest (more fallof whiter and brighter, desaturate, noise and translucence) , I will post an animation soon.

About the displacement, I haven't been able to apply it convincingly. It makes the model just bloat.
Do you know how to make a good displacement in the standard render without it taking forever?
Is there a new microtrangulation option somewhere in 3dsMAX?

Thanx again

There's a good thread here (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=92843) about getting the electron microscopy look that may help.

i agrea with the first repy on creating a displacement map. it would most definately help with the microscopic veiw bc. nothign is smooth upclose and magnified

:D

otherwise i think it looks great, the texture is cool
