In your position as a beginner full of desire to learn the software, I would purchase a book on the matter.
Surf to www.amazon.com and search for 3ds max. You will find loads of books.

I cannot understand why you would want to pay for a book or surf the web for fragments of knowledge on 3ds max when the tutorials that come with it are fine adn are well-structured. They are great for giving you a little experience and understanding with what max can do. They are far from definitive but from that point you can find tutorials, etc on the net that feature a particular area you want to develop.
Books are great and a well-written book will contain a lot of technical information about a particular technique but there's no use shelling out that money until you've decided you really do like the software.
Just me opinion :D
