View Full Version : Rendering layered Textures w/ MR
fourlegsgood 12-22-2003, 01:44 AM I've built a layered texture in Maya and then tried to render in Mental ray and only the bottom layer rendered. Does Mental Ray support layerd textures? The help mentions there may be limitations with complex networks but does not expand on it. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this. Thanks in adavance.

Well I think I figured this out. Layered textures don't work, but a layered shader does seem to work ok. Go figure.

A layeredTexture should work just fine..are you sure you have a proper alpha to seperate the 2 textures? (just tried to confirm...on maya 5.0)
on the other hand layeredShader is as far as i know among the things that arent fully supported in MRFM as of yet

Yeah I think I had the alpha correct because it worked perfectly with a Maya render. When rendering with MR it didn't work. Perhaps there is a way to get it to work, i can't say that for sure. All I can say is that when switching renders with the same set up I got incorrect results from MR.
Layered shader seems to be working perfectly with out a hitch in MR. I haven't put in bump and reflection maps yet. If there is a problem I'm expecting it on the bump, but i think it will go ok.
