View Full Version : IPR not working
Dan Wade 12-21-2003, 12:31 PM The maya scene folder i am working from is on a network. For some reason, i carnt seem to use IPR or render region. If i create a scene and use my c drive as its folder, then these options work fine. I know the network is working ok as i all my texture and scene objects show up fine.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Dan.

Do you have writing rights on that network share? Not just for files, but also for creating directories? IPR will save stuff in your projects folder and if it's the first IPR you do for that project, it needs to create folder(s) if I remember correctly.

It's usually not a good idea to work from a network anyway.
Generally a network is just for sharing files between computers ,network rendering, and backing up etc.
When you try to do an IPR, maya creates some files in your project folder (on the network) and has to pass data out of your local computer...up the stairs... down the hall... across the building... onto the servers drives... and then back again.
Even the fastest network is not as fast as your local hard drive.
Back in college... another student was working from the network.
I guess our instructor got tired of the same problems over an over, so he made the class run back and forth 3 times from the workstations to the servers. ( we learned the lesson )
