View Full Version : Pick up the mic........
Spliff_Richards 06-18-2002, 09:15 PM I´m making a scene where a character picks up a microphone, and since I dont know how to do this I was hoping some of you geniuses do. I´ve pole vetctor constrained the hand to prevent flipping..............

Since you have poleVecotor constrained the elbow (yes, it's actually the elbow that benefits from the pvConstraint), then I take it that there is an ikHandle.
what you need now is a way to blend the ikHandle from being freely controllable in 3D space to being constrained to some position relative to the mic. To do this, you will need to point constrain the ikHandle to some object that you will use at the main hand controller. I like to use wire shapes for this, but a locator will do as well.
Once that is done, add a group or locator child to the mic and point constrain to that. DO NOT point constrain to the mic as you will have no workable offset control to get the wrist joint into a good position.
Next, add a new attribute to the hand controller. Float, min:0, max:10, default:0. Create a Set Driven Key to drive the ikHandle's point constraint weights from 0/1 when set to zero, to 1/0 when set to 10. When finished, this new control will smoothly blend the ikHandle from the controller to the object's offset child.
Of course, when I do this, I generally first point constrain the ikhandle to my wire controller and then point constrain that to external/internal targets but that's another class.

You could go here
http://www.gnomononline.com/character.html
And check out the first movie there, it's for free. It might give you an idea on how to make it with constrains and locators etc.
That video is certanly helpful in some way I guess
