CGTalk - How do I use mental ray??

View Full Version : How do I use mental ray??

I'm going by a tutorial on digital-tutors.com on doing a HDRI scene... well when i go to render globals... i dont have a choice to choose mental ray.. i went to my plugin manager and its not there either... im using version 4.5 unlimited... i dont know if that has anything to do with it... but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maya 4.5 doesnt have MR integrated with the install, Alias released a free beta 1.5.1 i think was the last release, grab it from www.alias.com and install it, then it will show up in your plugin manager. Set load & auto-load and away you go, you will find some MR tutorials here: http://www.learning-maya.com/rendering.php

and also checkout the posts in the Maya/rendering forum there is heaps of great info from other users.

but i cant seem to find it at alias.. is there anywhere else the plugin could be?

you have to register(which is free) and you should be ableto find it in the downloads section, how could you miss the "downloads section" its right at the top of the page!
