View Full Version : MacOS X 10.3.2 Issue

Hi, I just installed MacOS X 10.3.2 which has new Nvidia drivers in it. When I load Cinema (8.2) I have a problem. Points and Edges highlight correctly when selected but faces do not. They select and the normal appears but the red outline and the blue edges do not. All I get is the grey poly shape with a yellow normal sticking out if it.

If I do it in Wireframe mode, the face appears in red as I select it and then disapears along with everything else.

This is not broken in software mode.

Has anyone else got this problem?

Confirmed in C4D 8.503. (Nvidia 4Ti) The problem seems to be in the new Nvidia driver. Deselecting "Use Line Polygons" in Preferences->Viewport->OpenGL Shading seems to restore things to pretty much "normal."

Hopefully Apple/Nvidia/Maxon can work this out.

BTW. Performance "seems" slightly faster to me with "Use Line Polygons" deselected (which isn't what the "faster" tag would lead one to believe.)

My big models seem to go into "box" mode less often when rotating, preferring wireframe mode with the new drivers and preferences.

I've put in a report to Maxon on their USA site.

Thanks rabbitroo, nice to know its not just me, I'll tell UK office too.

You are right, it does seem a little quicker as well.

Heres another issue I'm haviing with OGL in Cinema (also posted on PF):

I have a radeon 9600 which was pre-installed in my dual 2 gb G5. Using a 23" cinema display.

When using C4d in OGL mode, my objects are covered with distracting dots, that seem to represent the back faces of the object. Turning off backface culling helps, but you can't work in that mode for very long. I've tried unchecking every OGL preference to see if one of the modes was causing the problem, and that doesnt change anything. Also tried this on other monitors, and had the same problem. Things look fine in Software shading, but who wants to work in that mode either?

We had another G5 in here recently with the same card, and dint have this problem. I'm thinking there is a problem with the card itself, or perhaps the 9800 is a better card for C4d afterall? Some had said that there wouldnt be much difference between the 2 in terms of c4d.

There are other glitches I have been having when in OGL mode, like crashing when I switch schemes. This happens consitantly when in OGL mode, and the problem dissapears when in software rendering mode.

HERES A STILL (http://joeldubin.net/test/radeon.jpg)

There is no driver available for the 9600 for some reason--only the 9000 and 9800. I downloaded the driver that was compatible with those 2 cards (among others) and still no changes.

Anyone else have any input here?
Thanks

My Quicktime player doesn't work either!!?? - I try to open a movie or the player itself, and it looks lie it's going to launch, and then... nothing - the player just quits itself before properly opening without any explanation!... time to check the log I think. :argh:

I dont have the problem on my old G4 400 with Rage 128 either, and thats running 8.2.

I think it's an NVidia and 8.5 issue.

I'm still running 8.2 though.

Doesnt do it on an LCD iMac with a GeForce 2MX and 8.5 under 10.3.2...
