View Full Version : Transparency problem with MR

I'm using a rotoscoped video sequence (TGA, RGBA) as a texture map for both color and transparency on a NURBS plane. This plane is set up on a simple scene, and lit by an array of directional lights and a casting shadow point light. In order to make the plane video cast a shadow on the "floor", I'm using raytracing shadows from the point light. Rendering with MR, using MAya complete 5.0 on MAc OS X.

Problem is, the transparency on the plane is not complete. It is actually very trashy, full of "noise" of some kind... I rendered only the plane (with the render active option) and it seemed to be fine... When I render the whole thing, it gets bad.

What am I doing wrong? i'm sure this is a simple one for you Maya pros...

First make sure that there is in fact no noise in teh alpha of the image you are using as a texture map and perhaps instead of a point light for the shadows try a spotlight.
