View Full Version : way to break reflection connections between specific objects ?
JasonA 12-17-2003, 10:04 PM I'm trying to stop the reflections from two different object occuring but I'm in a bit of a rock and a hard place, because the two items themselves need to be reflective. I just want them to stop reflecting each other. in 3ds max, you can specify what objects are reflected in a raytrace material. Is there a way I can duplicate that effect in Maya? ie break the relfection connections between two objects?

why not just turn off "visible in reflection" of the object you dont want to be visible there?
it's in the attribute of the object not of the material.

well, thats the crux of the problem. Because I need the object to be reflective in everything else. If I turn it off, it dissappears from all the other relfections as well.

i would like to know how to achieve this as well in a 3dsmax way..right now the only way i think you could do it is by rendering the scene in different layers and compositing later on.

I think Alias should consider coding reflection linking, not just light linking and UV linking.
