Here are the two that I have completed so far over the past week, four more to go. I'll post each one as I finish it after this. They are for a doom 3 total conversion. I'm not expecting a lot of replies because I haven't been getting them elsewhere, but I dunno, surprise me:) 4000 polys each.

very nice model...are u sure u are able to make run this amount of polys in a total conversion?

btw looking forward to see the textured version...
see y ago on working:)

crass. did you do the designs, too? how are you gonna approach the bumpmaps? paint or model?

Really phenomenal modeling and concept. Though I do share the fear of the others in that I'm not sure if the Quake Engine can handle 4k polys and still run fluid. My only crit would be that possibly the spiked rows curveing across the second creature's head could stand to be larger. They look to delicate for such a powerful creature. Really looking foward to the texture maps that I hope will follow. Can you possible shed some light on your conversion? Just curious.

Actually I'm not sure if the Quake or Doom engine can handle it. Oops.

It seems that 4k is around right for doom 3 from what I've read.

sweet !
poly is a bit high ,
UT 1000
UT2003k 2000-3000 hmm we will see
4000 wow very high , perhaps too many

Doom 3 models actually use anywhere from 2000-6000 polygons without low framerates from an interview with Carmack that I read:)

Shed some light? Sure. Imagine if aliens invaded the world today rather than 300 years from now when everyone has photon laser blasters and space marine suits:) So instead of all that fancy sci fi stuff, the government is forced to get all of the best recruits from the delta forces, navy seals, and the marines to form a task force who's sole mission is to rid the earth of the aliens that have been sent to destroy all life and use the planet as a breeding grounds. So the game itself is class based with 6 alien classes and 6 marine classes that fight eachother strategically. Humans stay in groups to cover eachother, aliens use stealth due to their lack of any real armor and projectile weapons. It should be a really fun action/horror mod:) Anyways, with that said, here's the third alien, still in progress though. It's a swimmer.

i feel that they are nice models, but they arent very efficient.

game models are all about the silhouette, not small details. i suggest that you smooth out those silhouette curves and take some detail out of the other areas.

you have alot of jagged edges. now i know ur gunna say but its not smoothed yet, but still you dont have nice curves. many of the details can be textured in.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but your "mantis_done.jpg" really make me laugh. I don't know if that is the response you want. It just reads as a comical piece to me. It seems well done just amusing visually. For some reason it is just really really funny to me. Maybe its the little angry face and the huge menacing body... I don't know.

The characters look good but I think there is a lot of extra geometry detail in parts that could be solved with Texture mapping.

I really like the big feet and I really like “scavenger_progress1.jpg”. Can’t wait to see them textured.

Heh, hopefully mantis will evoke different emotions when he's texturemapped and in a dimly lit environment making hissing noises:) Here's the fourth model.

And this was made entirely from scratch, with no parts salvadged from my previous model. I like to have more control over the character so I don't tend to reuse parts often.

Are you making models with the hope of using Doom 3 technology. From what I understand the game does not ship for another year and a half, maybe longer. And what it needs to run on is hardly consumer friendly, today.
Fun models though.

Nice models, hope to see the finished products soon. Wat software did u use to create these models? Maya? or 3ds Max?:bounce:

nice models
crits

to much poly
you can reduce the poly delteting all the detial and use bumpmaps (if you can make them) since the most games use that now
:-)
if doom 3 gonne have 4000 poly we need a super computer cause what woll the do in mulitplayer where 20 player for example will come togeter (llllllllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggg)) or maybie a crash hehe :p but nice tho

Wat do u mean by bumpmaps? Can elaborate? Newbie...:p

dude these r some of the best low poly characters i have ever seen. unbeleivable! can you post some wirframes cause i would love to see how you modeled the arms and chests. the detail is great. im trying to model arms and connecting to the shoulders but i am having problems. keep it up and im anxious to see more.

also r u using high poly models and then down sizing them or r u just modeling lowpoly straight forward?

Lonewolf

Thanks for the replies.

Parasite: I'll try and post wireframes later tonight. I build them straight in lowpoly form in MAX.

Intruder: I know it could have less pollies, but it doesn't have to, because of what Doom 3 can handle.

Look for the next two models over the course of this week.

Wow! Love the stuff. But they look more like mythological models than what might actually evolve.

For conceptual lifeforms, don't think mishmash and comicbook. Think fractals.

The fastest alien in the bunch, and a very good hunter. I'd post wireframes but my bandwidth on homestead sucks as it is so until i can get some new hosting that'll have to wait.

On this fractal (this form), the general shape of the spacial shifter branches (the legs) suggest that this creature is meant to stay in one place and take a beating. It may be the fastest out of all of those slow movers, but it doesn't look very fast.

I only point this out because you've guided one's observation to this lifeform's prowess with velocity.

But you've got a great imagination, though, and it shows through your work. I've always had a soft spot for people who make up stories to go with their creation. It shows that neurons are making new fractals.
