Using 3dsmax 5.1 to animate a robot arm using HI solver, skin. I'm just using the finger pieces as bones, the pivot points are where they should be at the intersection of each conjoining piece.

ANIMATION TEST:

The finger pieces deform when the IK helper goes to a certain point. Looked around for a rigid setting in the Skin parameters rollout but no luck.

Anyone know why this is happening? I just want them to rotate on their pivot point, nothing special (like this deformation that's going on).

Thanks!

When using non uniform scaling and then making a hierarchy Those problems may arise. My advice, don't use ever non uniform scaling. Now, try reset xforming the objects(utility panel). Hope this helps

That's what the problem was.

Thanks! I'll try to keep away from non-uniform scaling altogether from now on.
