Hello;

I am just beginning to use Animate 4.0e and I am having problems getting the Auto rig function to deform any mesh.

I am following the instructions (I think) on the Vid Tut but I still cannot get the rig to deform. I add bone deform to the mesh etc; etc; but no joy,

I have also read the info on the "whats new 4" and have carefully followed those instructions too. I must be missing something. My character is poser (Micheal3).

If anybody has had a success with auto rig please help.

Sincerly
TAWolf

Make sure you go to Setup->Effects. Click your mesh on the left and your skeleton on the right (you may have to expand the pane). Then click the "Add" button. If you forget this step, the autorig will not deform your mesh.

After that, you will probably have to tweak bone placement, and add Spherize effects at the shoulders and elbows.

I just got messiah, so hopefully somebody else will chime in with better advice.

Let me know how the poser import works out for you.

Are you sure you activated 'bones' on the auto-rig and you are activating that effect to the mesh after generating the autorig?

Those are the only steps that seemed unintuitive to me the first time I ran through it. If that's not it, maybe yuou could describe more exactly what you're doing.

BTW there's a second anim by Fred Tepper (I believe). Have you checked that out?

Tangledpath;

Hey thanks for the tip, I will try it again shortly.

By the way, can you tell me where I can find information on importing bvh files into messiah. I just bought a bunch of mocaps from creado and I was planning on using them in mb4 and then rendering in LW. So far I have not found to much on the subject.

Thanks;
I got it to work, the key is in effects , by selecting both the rig snd the bone drform and then adding bone deform, then going to animater my rig is working.

However I must now work on getting the shoulder deforms to work right, I will try the metaeffector function.

Thanks again all

Ted

Try using the Spherize for the shoulders, and playing with the size.
