View Full Version : lw to messiah and back
Hi,
I read an article on messiah and it talked about seamlessly switching back and forth between lw and messiah. . . sorry if this sounds redundant . . . . but is it possible to rig and animate in lightwave and then bring in that "lightwave" animation into messiah for character secondary animation like softbody dynamics and then back to lightwave for render. How can this be achieved?
thanks Tom

the short answer is no - messiah doesn't import/export bone data, only mesh deformation ...
coming from LW myself, it's actually easier to rig and animate in messiah (fast, fast feedback!!!) and then export the animation to LW for rendering.
:)
Thanks for the info. . . .Yeah I figured it wouldn't bring in lightwave bones. . . .can I somehow scan my lightwave animation as a mdscan or messiah displacement file and then bring in that animation into messiah. . . .basically bake out the lightwave animation to a displacement file that messiah will read. . . I would like to keep my lightwave animation and enveloping but use messiah for it real time softbody dynamics and other advanced displacement effects.
You can load your LW scene into messiah, the bones will be imported, but no envelopes/weightmaps. You can also import a mdd file into messiah through Marc Wilson's PointOven plugin...
What you want to do would be pretty tricky though - it might work under certain circumstanced, but you'd better do all your animation in messiah, this way you have all the power of messiah, and it's really worth it...! You can import your LW rig into messiah (though I'd rather re-rig it in messiah), reassign the mesh eventually with metaeffectors (messiahs weight tools) keep the LW animation from the LW rig or import .mot files, add secondary motion, and export everything through the messiah displacement plugin.
My 2 cents.

Thanks guys,
I'll check out point oven pluging sounds promising. . . . are there specific do's and don'ts that I should know about when bringing lightwave bones into messiah. . . .like messiah not working with a bone heirarchy that has the pivots recorded?
thanks Tm
Not sure about this, since I never really need to import LW bones into messiah... The best thing for you would be to try out the demo :)

messiah reads lw bones just find and the animationhowever it doesn't read IK and once the bines animaion isin messiah..thats it..its messiah animation. for then on.
You can export motion files per bone and import/export motion per bone (super tedious) so why bother?
