Howdy,

I am slowly learning maya, and I'm trying to create a good skin texture with a light coming through it...

I'm using the Tranvol SSS Shader for mental ray in order to get the light to work, but I can't seem to get a bump map to work at all. I have just started fiddling around with mental ray and I'm haveing a bit of trouble even figuring out how to set up a material well in mental ray.

I've tried using the bump function in the Tranvol shader, I've tried creating different kinds of Mental Ray bump map shaders and hooking them up to different parts of the network and I can't get it to work. Any help on how to get it to work (and maybe some suggestions on setting up Mental Ray materials in general) would be immensly appreciated.

Thanks so much for your time, I've also linked the project file so you can see the mess.:D

LightEngine for Maya is not free, but the subScatter plugin for Maya is.

um....
any idea where I could get that plugin, then? tried searching with little success.

For the time being, though, is there any way to make it work with the shader I'm using?

thanks again

AWESOME.

That lightengine thing looks like it is gonna be perfect. I downloaded that example scene file from pixero and it worked superbly.

Once again you guys have really helped me out. I really appreciate it.
