View Full Version : Is there a simple rain maker?

What I need is to make a simple rain effect. What's the "simplest" way to accomplish this? I am still learning particles, so I sort of need the easy quick way to get this thing out the door.
Thanks,
Dave

put a plane on top of your scene. particles-emit from object. check the direction to -Y. that's the overall simplest way :)

you could assign a little tubulence field to it, just to make it more believable.

I got that much, bu how do you color them to look clearish and render right? Stupid question, I know, but I'm new to this.

as particle render type set streaks. then under add dynamic attributes hit the color button, and check per object attribute. this adds three float field under the particle render type for each color segment (RGB). set B to 1.
in the hardware render buffer switch on the motionblur and multipass rendering.

Paint Effects!

Theres an animateable rain brush. Just paint and play. Its kinda like a cheeseburger of 3D

I've never used it before, but it looks quite good.

Can you make Paint Effects Rain to "splash" on a surface upon collision?

re: PE splashing

doubt it... if you wanted a shot where you saw splashing then particles would be the way to go i guess.

You got an interesting point there graphiouz :p

Krugar: yeah, that's what i thought too. Unless you animate some Pain Effects rain at the exact time they touch the ground or something.
Haven't played much with the pain effects at all thou, they are kinda slow. Hope they'll speed up them a bit in the future if possible.

ofcourse there is,
make an instans if you need a close close up :)

I have been trying out a number of differant things. What I did was the inverted grid deal. It seemed to be pretty easy once I sort of stummbled through it. I'm used to Softimage, so I sort of know what to do, but no software has the same commands so I'm hindered by differant ways to skin the same cat. Here's an in progress shot of what I'm working on.

Actually, I am. With the camera pulled back it's pretty rainy. As I said, it's in progress...
