View Full Version : merging rendered animtions
Iysun 12-16-2003, 04:21 AM I have to sets of rendered animtions, both with differnt names, but there all *.jpg, one animation is around 700 frames, the other around 300. and i want to merge them togather and export in a single avi file...
is there a way to do this within XSI, besides renaming all my files... in the flipbook i seen no option for appending animtions:(
also is there a way to use XSI's compositor to stick a logo in the bottom corner of an entire animation ? :D
Never mind about the compositor question i found out how to do it

Don't know about flipbook...For Renaming multilple files according to your specs, try :
Rename (http://www.1-4a.com/rename/)
And for converting multiple files into avis (with compression and basic editing etc.) try
VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org/)
Both freeware.

ive tried viirtual dub, the problem is the animations are at a differnt sample rates, the first one is at 3.5 fps, the last is at 20 fps, im not sure if its even possible to merge them togather and yet have the, both play back at there orignal speeds
thanks for that rename app though that will come in andy im sure :D

@fps....you can't merge 2 files with different fps'
if you're using virtualdub, and the fps' haven't too big differences you could first change the fps of one of them, and then merge it with the other
3.5fps? did you make a mistake while typing?? *hopeso*hehe
the best way of getting the same fps is surely rendering one of them again with more or less frames

lol yah it 3.5, its a time lapse video of a model im made, so the first part i want to play at 3.5, fps, cause 20 or above is just way to fast to see properly, but the last part of the video i captures at 20 frames a second cuase there was extrudes and stuff that i animated real time, oh well i guess ill have to settle and make them both at 8 fps or so:hmm:

to change the duration etc. you can use a retime from the FXtree, pipe out the first part into the first frames and then pipe out the second (you can do it in another FXtree always in the same scene) with the same name but different frames.
from there all you need to do is load it in a flipbook and chunk it out.
or use a file input in a tree to pick up the whole thing and a file output to render it to a different format.
last but not least check Graham's page, he wrote some stuff to use the mixer + FXtree as some sort of limited NLE program.

thanks jaco, that worked good, i thought i mighta been screwed there.
only drawback is my file is now five times biggir from having to strech out the 3.5 fps to 20 fps:shrug:

variable framerate is still something you don't want to rely on.
no way around that at current time for timelapses.
why not leaving it split in 2 tho ? also makes for easier DLs for those who don't have a resumer

did you use a program to capture the process of the timelapse or what did you do exactly ? cause if you did, and you used camtasia, you can just use camtasia studio to merge them and then framerate should not be a problem

jaco - i was thinking about splitting it but the second half it litely like 3 seconds or so.
Soeren - No i just used the capture veiwport option in xsi, with the open gl pass, which was a problem kinda cause i could not figure out how to remove fram padding, so i had to rename every file:cry:
I was gonna ask though what other options i have for the next one i create. I'll look into camtasia. Any others you guys would recommend?
