1. I made a joint chain. But how can I atach parts of my model to it? If I move the joints my model doesn't move at all.

2. I have the same parts (duplicated) four times in my scene. If I wan't to edit these parts I have to do this four times. Is there a way to edit just one to change all?

1. select your surfaces, shift select the joint chain and go skin-bind skin and chosse between rigid and smooth bind

2. in the duplicate option select instance. of if the attribute you wanna change is available in the channeö box select all objects and change the attribute in the channel box. it will be changed for all objects

Thanks it works fine... but I now have a more complex problem:
I made something like a robot arm controled by pneumatic cylinders. So if I move the arm also the cylinders should move and change their length an direction. How can I make that?

i would just parent the cylinder under one joint and take the Set Driven Key to control the scale or whatever in relation to the rotate of the other joint.

Doesn't work as it should. It rotates into the wrong direction. Is there no solution with bones? If you have large mechanical constructions your method would be quite time wasting I think

i would never do this by just bones. scaling is something you really should avoid or at least don't make it a lot. so the way above works fine for me, and it's always some work involved for a whole mechanical character. there isn't a "make it all, fast and good button" in maya.

you could also try a solution with clusters on the cylinder. but this wouldn't make the amount of work more less.
