CGTalk - 3rd Party Renderers

Greetings,

I use Maya for just about everything and am quite happy with it overall.. but the renderer is really starting to be a sore spot with me.

Does anyone have suggestions, comments, or experiences with 3rd party renderers that are either integrated with Maya or are standalone but can import Maya files? Any that can do HDRI is a plus.

And as a side question, between Entropy and Messiah:Render, which do you prefer?

i know that these renderer with a connection can render
a maya scene file:

renderman (with MayaMan or MtoR connectors)
mental ray (connector?)
entrophy (MayaMan & MtoR)
BMRT (like above)

but not sure which can do HDRI rendering...
