The barton has a couple less mhz, but what is the major difference.

I figured that the bartons being newer probably had some better features?

From a 3sdmax standpoint, megahertz shows more of a performance gain then cache size.

Here's some maya benchies...

Lightwave's "about" the same.

In cinebench (Cinema 4D), the non barton processors are actually faster (higher megahertz).

I see that rendertimes are obviously faster by a little bit with t-bred, but what would the 512k cache have as an advantage, or doesn't that really matter?

the higher cache should give it an advantage, better to get a 2500 and set the fsb to 200mhz, or DDR400, this will give you the performance of a XP3200
