Here's the link to my first animation using messiah (610kb divx avi)
Hot, hot, hot (http://www.briannicolucci.com/showdown12-10.avi)
or if that doesn't work, try this one

This was done for the Animation Showdown. Your given a topic and 4 hrs to finish it up in. I spent a little over 3 hours on it. I used the fullbody model and rig from Joe Cosman's Rigging CD and quickly modified a female version as well.

A good chunk of the time was spent finidng my flow in messiah. Definitely learned a lot about working in it in those few hours. Hopefully next week my entry will be a bit more polished as I feel more comfortable with the interface.

One strange thing that was happening, was that sometimes the heading and bank on his hand controls rotated the exact same way. Not sure why, probably user error, but I was curious if anyone has had that happen.

I highly encourage anyone who has a few hours next Wednesday to enter http://www.digitalrendering.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=73

Hehe - I get it now - "hot, hot, hot". You could have her gyrating a bit to add some interest and add the Sir Mixalot's song " I like big butt's ...":)

hi:)
The poses are pretty clear in this animation.
But the framing, composition, and "design" of the shot is off.
Im sure you could find many more interesting camera angles.
As I said, the poses are clear, but not good enough to sell the shot.
Character lacks weight as well.

my 3 cents...

keep on trying :)

chikega: Yeah, that would've been great, but I totally ran out of time. Would've loved to have textured her butt red too. Heheheh

grzesiekj: I agree, but unfortunately my inexperience with messiah and the sub 4 hr timeframe only let me make one pass at the animation. In next weeks contest I plan on keeping the animation down to 8 seconds or so, which will hopefully give me more time to add a little finesse. Plus I need to work on setting up my shot quickly in Lightwave to render.

I will definitely be keeping your suggestions in mind though.

Thanks to both of you!!!

Yep. You need some anticipation before the fall and his body needs some serious weight shifting. He's a little stiff.

Haha, oh man, that stupid fall. I looked up and realized I had about 15 minutes left in the deadline and I still needed to end the animation, quickrender it out and email. I think the fall had all of about 4 keys on it. Next week I am soooo gonna spend the first half hour planning a bit more before I dive in. I nearly plotzed when I realize the animation was close to 16 seconds. If I had gone with a simpler idea, I could've probably taken another pass or two on it. Still, I learned a lot about messiah in those few hours of animating and all the great tips here and on the official list.

If any of you get some time next week you should give it a go. The short time frame definitely scares away a lot of people, but it really forces you to focus on getting strong poses and not waste time on fluff. Plus it's a lot of fun and only a few hours out of your day.
