There's nothing one cannot do with careful planning. Take this windmaker for instance. I had to plan every part in order to keep a reasonable file size.

for your next project may i suggest modelling a face with hair (each hair individually modelled)

Planning is very important, thats why you should have researched the benefits of transparnecy mapping over complete geometrey.
