View Full Version : Interior design & Architectural work

What equipment do i need to run Autocad, Autocad Revit, 3ds max, Mental Ray, Maya
all for the purpose of Architectural and interior design work/rendering. (Animation included)
Is an Imac right for the job?
An Imac would work, but you'll really want something more powerful. If you can afford 15K in software and the salary for someone who can use it all, you should pony up 5-10K for a nice workstation.

This is a rocking answer, that made me smile! Kuddos!
And what workstation configuration comes to your mind for
a 1500-2000$ budget?

I'm not sure what distributors are around in France, but check out Dell, HP, and Lenovo. They all have web stores where you can tweak the system to match your budget and needs. Anything you buy from them will come with a warranty and tech support.

I heard that quadro graphic cards aren't worth it and latest Geforce was way better,
could you recommend online pc gamer assembler in the us? May be with euro>$ I could make a good deal?

for example would this configuration
will do the work :
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-3820 Quad-Core 3.60 GHz 10MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011 (All Venom OC Certified)
HDD: 2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive)
MEMORY: 16GB (4GBx4) DDR3/1600MHz Quad Channel Memory (Corsair or Major Brand)
MOTHERBOARD: (SLI/CrossFireX Support) MSI X79A-GD45(8D) Intel X79 Chipset Quad Channel DDR3 ATX Mainboard w/ Winki 3, OC Genie II, 7.1 HD Audio, GbLAN, 3 Gen3 PCIe X16 & 4 PCIe X1
SOUND: HIGH DEFINITION ON-BOARD 7.1 AUDIO
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 2GB 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card (Major Brand Powered by NVIDIA
That looks fine. You might get a big performance boost in AutoCAD and Revit with the Quadro cards, even at the $400 price point. Apparently the Quadro cards don't start to become an advantage in Maya until around the $1000 mark. I'm not sure though, but Its something worth looking into.
