I found compiled versions
of PyQt4 available for linux
I’m user fedora 17
I tested from Maya 2012 ,It’s work fine http://forum.gfxdomain.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Simple copy to /usr/autodesk/maya_version/lib/python_version/site-packages

with this structure

/PyQt4/*
/sip.so
/sipconfig.py
/sipdistutils.py
