well I plan to get this thing bought in january
I plan to spend about 1500 - yep that is an underbid but it can be done.

workflow is Gimp/photoshop > matchmover > Maya > Nuke/Composite > Lightworks for video editing.

and I also do stuff in houdini.

I'm heavily leaning towards just having a good CPU for rendering.
I don't game anymore. or if I do game it will be on laptop.

I guess I've been told these are the routes I have to go.

barebones i7 sandy bridge/ivy bridge.
it can be done for under 1000 but not easy

i5 sandy/ivy bridge I think this is more realistic.

and if I can't get that on intel end then I need to for GPU based renderer such as octane and go AMD route.

and for AMD I'm unsure about procs.

I think in any case I want to grab either the 8/6 core or trinity procs. I'm really unsure at this point. and I guess an nvidia card I forget the specs on it something with ti in it.

plan to have 16gb ram or 32gb

I wanted to go with an SSD and an HDD at 1TB/500gb but can either drop to
a hybrid hard drive
or just a plain 1 TB drive.

the monitor I want to go with 23.6in I think that would be cheapest deal.

PSU I think needs to be 600W.

Everything else cheapo...

So that is what I'm thinking if anyone has any further thoughts I'd like to hear it.

Thanks

An Intel 3770K would be a great starting point.

The SSD/HDD combo works really well.

The 3770K does have a small built in GPU, but you might want to pick up a separate card anyways. If you don't do any high resolution animation work in Maya, anything in the $100 range should do fine.

yea I'm just not sure about the i7 just seems a bit out of reach. i5 seems easier to grab.

The most funds should be applied towards the CPU that you can afford since after all it is the Central Processing Unit.

yea after sitting down I'm kinda hunkered between these decisions.

AMD 8 core or i5 sandy/ivy bridge or i7 sandy bridge

I guess the piledriver procs are good at doing FPU calcs but I have to do more research on that.

Another thing is that with AM3+ can't upgrade it's topped out.
with intel can at least upgrade to an i7

its a tough call at this point.

Hey man,

The first build looks ok. I would really recommend you spend the extra $70 to get the 3770K. Your going to find yourself waiting on renders, and wishing you had bought the fastest chip you could. The 2600K is the older generation chip from a couple of years ago. You also don't need the thermal compound, as the stock heatsink will already have some applied.

There's been a lot of discussion about the 650 TI on this board, so there might be some issues with it. I'm not sure though.
