Hello everybody
I have problem . I want to do a fluorescent tube :( I try to do this use to max, I do fluorescent tube but effect is poor I use to do this material from max change slef ilumination on 100 diffuce give's output map and in the render I growe diffuce to powerly effect but this looks not good :( and this effect completly gone when I try to emimited photon's on other light :/ could have any tutorial to do fluorescent tube I will be very very pleased.
Sorx for my English .I know that I cant use Glow but I want used this scenes to animation
:)
This is 2 pic first with effect self il... and secend with light photon where the effect is gone :(

Looks like you've figured it out. Can I ask exactly how your doing it? there's a couple of different methods. You mentioned output map.. which is the way I have been experimenting with it. however, I can only seem to get a bright white object material and controlling the colour is inconsistent for me. I probably just need to experiment some more though...

My way to do this was like that. Firest way.
I do the cylinder and give him a material from max material have an atribut Slef-ilumination 100 , diffuse any color I use yellow .nce for diffuse I use output map and secend time I dont used output map I think that setings nothing change in effect. Then I go to rendering setings and on GI where I change power of diffuse thats give me larger or smaller effect light but if I larger diffuse the quality was weak and if a smller this setings qualiti was good but effect scarce. This is presents picture 1.
Secent Time
A get Brazil tutorial of doing fluorescent tube like I want to reach
hmmm effect is a litt better .
Like first time I use material I put slef ilumination color etc. then I was put BRAZIL UTILITY and ther I change on OFF "Receive GI" then in tuck "Generate (Send)" I change LEVEL on 3 activate in render setings GI and render like I sad effect was a litlle better but not satisfy my and effect light is small. .
This is way a get of this effect .

to make the utility material to work turn on indirect illumination in the luma settings of the renderer

to make a smoother render i would also recommend turning up the GI samples

I really wanna know how to do this but don't quite understand this post?

Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks

first choose the diffuse color you want your object to be and turn self-illumination to 100. next open the material browser by clicking the "standard" button. choose the brazil utility material. open the global illumination rollout in the brazil utility material, uncheck "receive GI". in "generate (send)" set the level to 4 (may need to be raised or lowered) to boost the light energy.

Next in the render scene window turn on indirect illumination

Render away

Hope this helps out a bit.
