I am trying to figure out a workflow for rendering out large scenes in passes. I am goign to render out objects out seperately then composite everything together at the end. The only downfall of this setup I can see is if one object goes behind others. in which case alphas are needed. Setting up tons of alpha objects seems like a real pain.

I was wondering if it is possible to make a lscript that would allow you to have 2 versions of every object. One thats setup as an alpha and another that is normal. The Lscript would prompt what object(s) are wanted to be rendered out. The rest of the objects would be replaced with they're alpha versions.

I've never used DFX before, but my understanding is that it supports Z-depth compositing. Perhaps someone with DFX experience can expound upon this.

i haven't tested it in a while, but .RPF should be what you need, since the z-depth info is contained in the file...

Ya the place that I am at uses DF and we have used the z depth before but sometimes it refuses to work right so we end up haveing to do it useing alpha objects to composite.
