Hi, here are some stills of a car i made recently, soon (i hope) will follow an animation
Made in 3D Studio Max, Photoshop
12-08-2003, 09:06 PM
Great stuff! I really the glow u create... U got some qualty images there that should be frontpage!
12-08-2003, 09:08 PM
Excellent model, Eklettica! I'm not usually into car posts, but I must admit I like Alphas :D
I really like the shading of the surface, but I do find the positioning of the 77 on the hood a little strange - however, I am assuming that there must be some reason for that.
The texturing and modelling of the headlights and rearlights is particularly impressive.
Great job, front page :)
12-08-2003, 09:10 PM
I also, dont find most car posts that fascinating, but this one really grabbed me :) Its a lovely car, and a great model! like the renders too.
12-08-2003, 09:12 PM
It neeeds Tire Valves! Quick put em in there :) Need air in those tires if they ever get a flat! just incase!
12-08-2003, 09:16 PM
Really beautiful car :) and well done, too. I especially like the way You did the headlights. That "77" sticker on the hood bothers me a bit, IMO glows too much.
12-08-2003, 09:23 PM
Wow very nice
Could you post wires!? Thanks
12-08-2003, 09:41 PM
wish I owned one.
12-08-2003, 09:46 PM
Very nice model and renders.... one thing though, shouldnt the tires be a bit more dark-blueish?! seems very grey to me....
and yes a wire would be nice....:)
12-08-2003, 09:50 PM

This is great, i love 3D cars and you just made my YEAR! Saved all the pics for future wow factor, this is truly stunning.
Maybe a few tips on your rendering technique? ;)
12-08-2003, 09:53 PM
Hey those are nice!
There is so much to like - details like the tire texture, great lighting.
12-08-2003, 10:29 PM
Thanks folks for the comments and thanks Leigh for the plug !
About the 77 sticker on the hover...yes, probably it glows too much, but the position is correct according to my plastic model i used as reference...eheh
About the tyre valves ....uh, well, i guess you are right about their lacking, but where exactly should i put them ?
12-08-2003, 10:30 PM
Excellent work Ale! i love the surface's shader, and the illumination too! nice glow fx :)
It's too clear perhaps ;) but beautiful!
12-08-2003, 10:56 PM
I really enjoy your work...
12-08-2003, 11:11 PM
okay... I didn't want to reply at all to this post because I don't have anything particular with cars (don't get me wrong, very good job on shaders and such - I just saw too much stunning cars) but THEN
I SAW THE TIRE!! Omg never seen a tire that good! The whole weel is very good, excellent capture of reality dude!
frontpage deserved for sure
12-08-2003, 11:19 PM
I think the wheel looks 98% real, other than the yellow dunlop; it just kinda sticks out. Amazing stuff.
12-08-2003, 11:52 PM
Wooow, Excellent!!!
U did this car so well. i love this work, and u always post up work here so good. Keep post up more. :D
12-09-2003, 12:22 AM
hey! you jenn from 3dt? btw VERY nice renders. keep all this amazing work coming!
12-09-2003, 12:29 AM
12-09-2003, 12:42 AM
Fantastic modeling and rendering!
12-09-2003, 01:00 AM
Great stuff. It looks very real. I am amazed at how low poly your model is in wire and yet it mesh smooths so well. I have two small crits:
-The paint material is really cool, but on the edges it gets white and it makes the car look kind of dusty. It might be a falloff material that is set that way?
-For such a shiny car I would expect newer tires or at least a cleaning with some ArmorAll. I would suggest maybe shining the tires up a bit.
Great model and great renderings.
12-09-2003, 01:28 AM
I definitly reccomend not shining the tires up, sorry novacaine. I agree the car looks new, but the tires are what gives it the realism in my opinion. It looks like its a car that has been used, but just got out of the wash to show off at the local car show or something. Really badass. I love it. Do you mind if i ask how you made your car shader?
12-09-2003, 01:30 AM
wau what a nice car - nice modeling very low poly (only what necessary:)) nice rendering too - one of the best car i ever saw
12-09-2003, 01:43 AM
looks like a calendar studio photo....
scanline or MR?
12-09-2003, 01:53 AM
12-09-2003, 02:47 AM
mmmm, back when race car tires had treads... awesome capture of the car, it has a lot of feeling to the render, like the car is old, but has been restored to its former glory. nice work.
12-09-2003, 02:52 AM
pretty cool but you ave some serious anti-aliasing issues going on with whatever renderer ur using.....
other than that looks perfect
12-09-2003, 04:02 AM
looks reall cool! :D great model there :p
12-09-2003, 04:38 AM
very very good images. The feeling of the renders is perfect fo vintage car studio shot.
The model is brillian too. It is amongst the best non nurbs models I've seen. The typical effect of surfaces bending into the seams is almost gone. On the upper seam of the door you see a litle this effect still - totally nitpicking though, wouldn't notice unless I knew it is a cg car.
What bothers me most is the rims around the headlights. Are they really that fat? They sure can be - I do not know the model well enough to know but now it looks bit ugly.
Great job anyways. And very simple mesh - which is cool. What meshsmooth level did you use for these renders?
didn't mean to be negative in anyway.
12-09-2003, 05:15 AM
Excellent modeling and very nice shadeing . :):applause:
12-09-2003, 06:44 AM
I never post for a car....
But this one, make me down...
I guess is brazil, but a little explication about lighting ??
12-09-2003, 06:51 AM
Very beatiful car.
12-09-2003, 06:59 AM
really well done
like others say, the 77 sticker looks a little odd!!
i really can't wait to see some animation, what renderer did u use and how looong does it take?
12-09-2003, 07:05 AM
Awsome!!!! Very good all!
12-09-2003, 07:52 AM
the attention to detail in the lights is the most impressive to me, best I've seen. i agree with dagball, the tires look dirty or old, while the rest of the car looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. but the detail in the tires is exceptional
12-09-2003, 08:03 AM
Not generally a fan of car renders as most are renders of cars I couldn't give a fig about, but Alfas, well that's closer to art really than just a mode of transport, and you've done a beautiful job of this. I saw a TZ2 recently that was blue (sort of Bugatti blue, which I know is French but hey-ho) and wire wheels which looked just superb. Don't suppose you fancy doing one like that so I can wallpaper it ;)
Very good work, my only crit would be on your original renders, it looks like the the metal on the hub caps could do with a few more samples, looks like it's boiling a bit, but other than that, top notch.
Can I request a Ferrari 250 GT Lusso next please? ;)
12-09-2003, 09:03 AM
good stuff !
great work . i like it :)
12-09-2003, 09:19 AM
Awesome render and model. Nothing but cheers to you.
Only one point of criticism after you posted the close-up of the wheel. The dunlop has the bottom of the characters to the middle of hte wheel. Then one would expect the tire specs to have those too but you have them the opposite way so either the dunlop is upside down but my guess is that the tire specs are upside down on your tire.
12-09-2003, 09:40 AM
I can say nothing, but excellent work!
12-09-2003, 09:50 AM
The model looks really great!!! although I particularly would have made the tires newer.
Juan Carlos Jiménez
eh, eh, eh!
As I said on IRC it looks great, clean modeling as well as a nice render - way to go!
12-09-2003, 11:17 AM
¡¡¡Good work Alessandro!!!.
12-09-2003, 11:22 AM
the only thing i dont like is the tires. whole car is so clean and the tires are too dirty IMHO.
even that... AWESOME STUFF!!!
12-09-2003, 01:36 PM
5 stars, excellent work as usual, it seriously kicks ass! :buttrock:
12-09-2003, 01:57 PM
12-09-2003, 02:09 PM
I hate cars!
btw, your pic is great. awesome in every way.
12-09-2003, 02:59 PM
its just perfect man!
12-09-2003, 05:02 PM
Hi Alessandro, your work is awesome!
Sei sempre tra i nostri punti di forza in Italia.
12-09-2003, 05:33 PM
Couldn't believe my eyes! Your unsmoothed mesh is not far away from an ingame model!
But there are some regions, e.g. around the headlights, that would benifit from more geometry detail
Very good work! I like your style!
You always have very "crisp" renderings! I like that!
12-09-2003, 07:07 PM
Try to deform the tyres a little in order to simulate weight.
(It doesn't supose to be a plastic model)
12-09-2003, 07:09 PM
I can only say wonderful
bella li
12-09-2003, 07:54 PM
Incredible material, awesome render. Love the look your getting with your lighting
12-09-2003, 08:49 PM
I am the biggest car nut, and that's just impressive.. regardless of rendering style, the car.. lol haha, yeah I'm excited... mm Alfa romeo.. awesome car...
12-09-2003, 10:51 PM
Ecco un altro bel lavoro del buon vecchio Baldassironi!!!
Very nice work. I guess Max isn't limited to triangles only anymore. I haven't looked at Max since 2.5 and it really seems to have matured. I just never liked the interface. Is it better now?
12-10-2003, 12:03 AM
very nice :), although i don't like the car choosed to model. The car reminds me the type of cars of a old serie of animation of crazy drivers, i dont remind its name.
12-10-2003, 12:39 AM
I want one.
If my memory serves me right, didn't these older racing cars actually have tires this color ? I think it had to do with the type of rubber - the softer tyres had a duller finish.
Your model looks fantastic.
12-10-2003, 05:57 AM
This is good stuff
one of the best cars I
12-10-2003, 07:18 AM
Yay! This is great! And car design too great! Better than Ferrari! I don't know about this model of Alfa Romeo!?
12-10-2003, 07:33 AM
You have made great job!! At first I was thinking about external NURBS modeller and max for render but then surprise came:eek:
Absolutely the best car model for months here on Cgtalk, so eye catching stuff!
Aplaus to you:applause: :applause:
12-10-2003, 08:32 AM
aahh those curves of the 60's absolutely stunning!
may I ask how did you do those tires??
maybe you haven't seen it, but there's a glap between the headlights and the body..
really great work!
Fantastic! Like most on here, I don't usually bother with car pics because, well... they all usually look pretty much the same. This is superb though, a classic car, superb lighting, excellent materials and shaders.
The tyres are spot on, any of us that own cars know that even if you wash them, they never really look clean so they're spot on. Would agree with the deformed tyre due to weight though, would add that final touch.
The number position is typical of the era this car came from, look any pics of the old e-type jags etc... and you will find the number offset on the bonnet. It's one of the things that added that extra bit of character.
Would love to have seen this with some wire-spoke wheels with knock-off hubs... a la E-Type, MG midget etc...
12-10-2003, 09:27 AM
Thanks to you all people for the constructive critiques and nice comments,I definitely agree with most of the advices to improve the realism ,especially about the weight of the tyres and the antialiasing problems , i`ll try to fix them for the upcoming animation ;)
12-10-2003, 10:21 AM
12-10-2003, 01:32 PM
OMG !!!! What a texture What a model ! What a car hehehe =D cool light effects and cool painting and texturing !!!!
12-10-2003, 02:09 PM
Could you share the wisdom of lighting/scene setup?
12-10-2003, 02:50 PM
12-10-2003, 03:02 PM
Great modeling and lighting. I'm new this this board and completely astonished by the quality of work people are putting out.
12-10-2003, 06:27 PM
Awesome work! I especially like the tires and lights (and the rest of the car... :p)
Definatly 5 stars!
12-11-2003, 06:38 AM
Yes, this is really TOP :applause:
12-11-2003, 07:10 AM
12-13-2003, 06:17 AM
Whoa. How did I miss this? Top quality stuff and nice subject.
12-13-2003, 06:49 AM
Gread modeling and materials. ;) The lighten glow is great.
12-13-2003, 09:15 AM
Your work is really good, as usual ! YEAH ! (the first time that I post for a car pic ;) )
12-13-2003, 06:28 PM
Hi folks, i just forgot this, i had to edit a previous post
Sqwall : your subaru impreza has been of great inspiration to me !
12-13-2003, 09:26 PM
Is the tire modelled or is it a bumpmap?
12-13-2003, 09:29 PM
pZion : it`s modelled , there are wireframes on first page btw
12-31-2003, 12:25 AM
09-13-2004, 08:08 AM
Fantastic. Looks real. The only thing that kind of throws it off .. is the 77 number on the hood. It looks a little flat and tends to bring the rest of the car to flatness with it. Otherwise very very nice.
