Hi,

Well man, maybe you can try an easy way with photoshop, by selecting magic wand, then fill with the gradient tool and finish it giving the rusty texture that you are looking for, with texturizer or ilustrator,

sometimes works for me, i mean when you want something fast,

Yeah nice texture but it needs some shading too give it some depth. Rember Light sources!!
sorry if you haven't got round to adding this yet and i'm making a dumb ass coment.

Well if u wana spend a lot of time then u can do an a displacement map . Here is a link to a very cool website and it'll give u a step by step guide:
http://www.polykarbon.com/tutorials/displacement/displacement.htm

Or if u wana do it quick u can do a colour dodge to high light and avoid damaging your texture and just darker tones for the shading

Try the displacement map its realy cool

I'm a learner my self so probably best to ask some big experty person :hmm:

I'm working on something simular like your squid. The way I do it is first color it flat shaded and than add the shadow edges. After that the light parts...

I tried the displacement thing in Photoshop, but doesn't work well on the arms of my octopus.

You can check my octopus here: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10841

Still working on it...

wow m8, you seem to have really pulled that off well,

how long did it take you to shade it all and what bruses did you use?

thanks

thnx,..

I think I worked on it for about 2 to 3 hours total. I just used the standard paintbrushes,.. sizes varying from 3 to 100 pixels.. The image is made at 300 dpi,.. you never know when you need it for print :D
